Short Description of the Organization / Department
IPHES is a CERCA research centre accredited by the Spanish Program of Centres of Excellence (CoE) as Maria de Maeztu Unit (CEX 2019-000945-M) since its outstanding performance and its high level of excellence at international level. IPHES-CERCA focus on Prehistory and Human Evolution studies through multidisciplinary approaches to the archaeological record at several sites in three continents.

During the last five years (2018-2022) the IPHES-CERCA’ members published, excluding the publication of abstracts of Congresses, 614 papers indexed by WoS or by Scopus. Among these, there are 492 papers with impact factor (JCR). The current h-index is 76 (according to Scopus, Feb. 3, 2023). In addition, currently the centre has 15 Highly Cited papers (WOS), updated at November 2022, to cover 10-year and eight-month period, January 1, 2012 – August 31, 2022. Among the IPHES-CERCA highest impact publications during 2005-2022 (n=1386) there are papers in Nature (n=10), Science (n=13), Cell (n=1), Nature Communications (n=5), Nature Ecology & Evolution (n=2), Science Advances (n=13), PNAS (n=19), Scientific Reports (n=41), Quaternary Science Reviews (n=101), Journal of Human Evolution (n=85) and Journal of Archaeological Science (n=54), among others.

Previous Related Projects / Research Experience
IPHES-CERCA has already hosted an important number of postdoctoral international scientists from different countries. Just during last years the origin institutions include: Université Aix-Marseille and MNHN Paris (France), Queen’s University Belfast, University College Dublin, and University College London (UK), and University of Tübingen (DE), among other. In addition, IPHES is leading a H2020-MSCA-COFUND-2020 (from 1 May 2021 to 30 April 2026): “R2 boosting your postdoctoral career in Prehistory at IPHES” (R2STAIR) hiring researchers from countries as Portugal, Italy, UK, The Netherlands, China and Argentina.

2. Project Title: Neanderthal behaviour and paleoecology in Mediterranean ecosystems. Co-PIs: F. Rivals and M. Vaquero. Beneficiary: IPHES. MICINN (PID2019-103987GB-C31).

Thematic areas and list of supervisors who are looking forward to preparing a project proposal with postdoctoral researchers
The project “Spatial analysis of combustion structures from Abric Romani Middle Paleolithic site using geostatistics and geographic information system (GIS) tools.” will be developed under the supervision of Dr. Josep Vallverdú https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3177-3263 at IPHES-CERCA (Tarragona, Spain).

We are looking for a postdoc, who would like to apply for a Marie Sklodowska-Curie PF fellowship to work on the archaeological spatial analysis combustion structures from Middle Paleolithic levels from Abric Romaní using geostatistics and geographic information system (GIS) tools.

Abric Romaní is a Neanderthal middle palaeolithic site, where nearly 10 archaeological levels have plan map combustion structures documentation. Network analyses, suitability modelling, algebra map and ring and sector method analyses among others are required for advanced GiS user candidates.

Candidates are required to be advanced GiS users having skills in Network analyses, suitability modelling, algebra map and ring and sector method analyses among others. The knowledge, and experience in Prehistoric archaeology will be welcomed.
